The Ministry of Migration and Displacement confirmed Iraq's commitment to the Global Compact for Migration, while it considered the closure of camps for displaced people to still be an ongoing challenge. The Minister of Immigration, Ivan Faiq, said in a statement to the National Iraqi News Agency /NINA/, that 'the government is moving forward with its commitment to the Global Compact for Migration through coordination and cooperation with international agencies and organizations in the migration management file through policies and programs implemented with the concerned authorities at all legal, psychological, and economic levels.' She added, "We are working with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through coordination with Iraqi embassies and missions in countries that have rejected the presence of many Iraqis on their territories due to illegal immigration and its legal repercussions that caused the rejection of immigration applications, and returning those citizens to receive them at Baghdad International A irport exclusively in coordination with the security authorities, and returning them in coordination with government agencies, especially the Ministry of Labor, and their voluntary return to their areas.' Regarding the closure of camps for displaced persons in the Kurdistan region within the time limit approved by the government, the Minister of Immigration explained, 'We are still facing the challenge of preventing the entry of ministry employees into the camps, which is an existing obstacle, because the work mechanism begins by filling out the return form so that the displaced person can choose the area in which he wishes to integrate with the host region, returning to his original region, or choosing another region.' She added, 'We seek, through the Prime Minister, to coordinate with the relevant authorities in the Kurdistan region to end this file,' noting, 'There is great cooperation from the local government in Sulaymaniyah Governorate, and by the end of this month, the camps for the displaced in the villages and cities of Sulaymaniyah will be closed.'
