Jerusalem: Israeli occupation authorities forced a Palestinian resident to demolish his own home in the Shuafat refugee camp, north of occupied Jerusalem. According to Palestine News and Information Agency, the Jerusalem Governorate stated that Israeli authorities compelled the al-Faqih family to demolish their under-construction home after receiving a demolition order from the Israeli municipality.
The family explained that they had demolished their previous home months earlier to construct a new house, only to be met with another demolition order during the construction phase. This situation led them to carry out the demolition themselves to evade heavy fines and demolition costs imposed by Israeli authorities.
Israeli authorities routinely require Palestinians in occupied Jerusalem to demolish their own homes, citing the lack of building permits. Those who refuse to comply face demolition by Israeli bulldozers and are subjected to significant fines.
