RAMALLAH: United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres affirmed that the United Nations is committed to the role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Refugees (UNRWA), calling for efforts to maintain its services. In press statements issued on Monday, Guterres reiterated that the only way to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip is a ceasefire, explaining that 'UNRWA is the lifeline, hope and dignity in the Gaza Strip.' 'We are making efforts to confront the problems and challenges facing UNRWA, and we are moving in the right direction. There are countries that have withdrawn from stopping their funding to the agency, and other countries are awaiting the results of our investigations," he said. He reported that 171 UNRWA employees were killed in the Gaza Strip. 'It is the largest number in the history of the United Nations," he noted. The Secretary-General of the United Nations noted that there is an international consensus that the Israeli ground invasion of the city of Rafah will lead to a humanitarian catastrophe.
