Doha: The Meeting of the Council of Presidents of the United Nations General Assembly (UNCPGA), hosted by the State of Qatar, kicked off Thursday, chaired by HE Chairman of the Council of Presidents of the United Nations General Assembly Dr. Han Seung-soo. Addressing the inaugural session, HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, said that the State of Qatars unwavering support for the Office of the UNGA President reflects its commitment to the UN goals, expressing his aspiration to adopt the Doha Declaration as the final document of the meeting. HE Dr. Han Seung-soo expressed his thanks to the State of Qatar for hosting the event, hailing the UNCPGA as an important reference in todays geopolitical context, and voicing hopes it would be a platform to benefit from the previous presidents' accumulated experience. For his part, HE President of the UNGA for its 78th session, Dennis Francis, expressed his thanks to the State of Qatar for hosting the meeting, expressing his aspirat ion to discuss the latest challenges facing the multilateral system, including issues related to the situation in Sudan, Haiti, Afghanistan, Ukraine, and the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. His Excellency pointed to the opportunities that enable leaders to intensify efforts aimed at creating a bright future, explaining that his current presidency of the UNGA is based on peace, progress, prosperity and development for all. The two-day event will discuss a number of important issues, primarily the situation in the Middle East, Gaza, and Ukraine; cybersecurity; artificial intelligence, and the UN Summit of the Future 2024 due to be held at the beginning of the 79th UNGA in September.
