Saudi Arabia, Kuwait Affirm Joint Ownership of Natural Resources in Divided Area and Al-Durra Field

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the State of Kuwait jointly own the natural resources in the divided submerged area, including the entire Al-Durra field, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported, citing a foreign ministry source.

The Kingdom and Kuwait have full sovereign rights to exploit riches in that region, the source said.

The source added that the Kingdom renews call for the Iranian side to start the demarcation negotiations for the eastern border of the submerged area, which is divided between the Kingdom and Kuwait. The negotiations should take place with the Kingdom and Kuwait as one negotiating party, in compliance with international law.

A source at the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry said that marine area in which Al-Durra field is located in the marine areas of the State of Kuwait; stressing that Kuwait owns exclusive rights to its natural resources along with Saudi Arabia, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.

Kuwait renews its call on the Iranian side to start negotiations on the demarcation of the maritime borders with the Kuwaiti and Saudi sides as one negotiating party, the source added.
