PM Mustafa Warns of Obstructing Gaza’s Recovery and Reconstruction Plans

Ramallah: Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa issued a warning on Wednesday regarding the potential chaos in Gaza due to the obstruction of relief, recovery, and reconstruction efforts. He expressed concern over the declining international interest and the ongoing delays in achieving Palestinian consensus necessary to unify state institutions and enable the State of Palestine to meet its obligations toward the people in the Gaza Strip.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, Prime Minister Mustafa, in his opening remarks at the weekly Cabinet session, highlighted the heavy toll endured by the Palestinian people through two years of violence and displacement. He emphasized that the situation must not culminate in chaos or arrangements that perpetuate the existing conditions, nor should it reduce the national cause to a mere humanitarian issue.

Prime Minister Mustafa called for a unified national stance to counter the occupation’s policies, allowing the Palestinian Government to implement its comprehensive plans for relief, recovery, and reconstruction in Gaza. These plans, which aim for stabilization, have garnered significant international and national backing.

During the session, the Cabinet urged the international community to pressure Israel to cease its actions in Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem. The Cabinet highlighted that Israel’s actions continue to undermine Palestinian state institutions, including the withholding of Palestinian tax revenues and the obstruction of the Palestinian Government’s return to Gaza, which hampers efforts to unify the West Bank and Gaza Strip and advance the Palestinian State.

In other developments, the Cabinet approved a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Social Development and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), valued at USD 3 million. This agreement aims to fund economic development projects for displaced families in the northern West Bank, focusing on agriculture, technology, and home production sectors. Grants ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 will be distributed based on specified criteria, implemented through cooperatives and civil society organizations in coordination with the Ministry’s directorates.

The Cabinet also reviewed preparations for the 2026 Hajj season, including electronic registration via the e-draw system, and made logistical arrangements to ensure the comfort and success of the pilgrimage for pilgrims.

Additionally, as part of the Government’s Digital Transformation Initiative, an updated National Cybersecurity Authority Draft Law was submitted to President Mahmoud Abbas. This law aims to establish a comprehensive national cybersecurity framework to safeguard digital infrastructure, enhance information security, and foster innovation and investment in the cybersecurity sector.
