Amman: The value of remittances from Jordanian workers in Qatar amounted to about $250 million (JD177.2 million) during the first half of this year. According to officials in money transfer companies in the Qatari market, these remittances recorded an increase of 6.8%, compared to about $233 million (JD165.1 million) during the corresponding period of the year 2023. In statements to "Petra" on Saturday, the officials said remittances from Jordanian workers in Qatar have recorded "continuous" growth since the beginning of this year, which has extended over the past few years. A total of about 75,000 Jordanian workers are now recruited in Qatar, compared to about 60,000 a few years ago, showed official data. Several years ago, Qatar pledged to provide 20,000 job opportunities for Jordanian youth in the Qatari labor market, half of which were recruited until the end of the year 2022, by providing about 10,000 jobs within the first phase, while efforts are currently underway to complete the second stage.
