Jordanian and Egyptian FMs hold Israel responsible for current dangerous escalation in region

AMMAN: Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, and Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, Badr Abdel Aati, held Israel responsible for the current dangerous escalation in the region due to Israeli aggression on Gaza, according to Jordan news agency, Petra. The two ministers held Israel responsible for violations of international law, illegal practices in the West Bank, and political assassinations, calling on the UN Security Council to adopt a binding resolution requiring Israel to stop its aggression on the strip and its continuous violations of international law. During a phone call, the two ministers stressed the need to work on de-escalation to prevent the region from slipping into a comprehensive regional conflict that could destabilize the Middle East, especially after the recent Israeli escalation, added Petra. Additionally, the two ministers further condemned political assassinations. They underscor ed that the first step towards calm is to stop the aggression on Gaza and end its resulting humanitarian tragedy, reiterating their condemnation of Israel's grave violations of international law and international humanitarian law and its violations of the sovereignty of states. The two ministers reaffirmed the need to end the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories in a way that addresses the roots of the conflict in the region, restores the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, and realizes their independent and sovereign state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the two-state solution, as the only way to achieve security and stability in the region, said Petra.
