Huge explosions rocked the city of Haifa, northern Israel, at a time when sirens sounded in large areas of the Galilee. The launching of rockets towards Haifa and its surroundings came after the Home Front Command in Israel announced the easing of restrictions imposed on the movement of Israelis, including the regularity of school. The Israeli army radio announced the interception of a ballistic missile (surface-to-surface) launched from Lebanon. The army said, "The missile was intercepted." The Israeli army confirmed that more than a million Israelis are running to shelters after Hezbollah fired rockets at Haifa and the north. Alarms were sounded to warn of rocket launches in Haifa and in a number of surrounding towns, including the Carmel Coast. Alarms were also sounded in Atlit, Tirat al-Karmel, Neve Yam, Megidim, Ein Hod, Ein al-Karmel, Beit Oren and others. Sirens were also sounded in Acre and several communities in the Western Galilee, including Kafr Yasif, Bustan Ha-Halil, Gaton, Sa'ar, Ya'ur, E in Hamifratz, Raqaba, Ghetto Fighters, Mazra'a and Ein Hamifratz.
