The infrastructure of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant has been severely damaged following an attack by Ukrainian forces. In a statement Russia's Rosatom nuclear corporation said that a cooling tower at the Zaporizhzhia plant has been severely damaged following a Ukrainian military attack, with two direct hits by Ukrainian drones on Sunday evening causing a fire inside the facility. The emergency units at the scene extinguished the fire and the station's operations were not affected. Zaporizhzhia Region Governor Yevgeny Balitsky said that the cooling systems at the plant caught fire as a result of Ukrainian shelling. He confirmed that all six reactor units at the plant are in cold shutdown, which eliminates any risk of an explosion. The capacity of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which is located in southeastern Ukraine and controlled by Russian forces, is about 6 gigawatts and is the largest in Europe.
