The World Health Organization (WHO) declared that the rise in mpox (monkeypox) cases in Africa constitutes a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC). A PHEIC is the highest level of alarm under international health law, the UN website reported on Wednesday. "Today, the Emergency Committee on mpox met and advised me that, in its view, the situation constitutes a public health emergency of international concern. I have accepted that advice," WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said Wednesday in a post on his official X account. Source: Jordan News Agency
