Washington: We do not plan to conduct nuclear tests

Baghdad – The Director of Arms Control, Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Affairs at the US National Security Council, Pranay Fadi, confirmed that the United States does not plan to conduct nuclear tests.

Fadi said in an interview with the Russian newspaper “Kommersant”, “The United States does not need or plan to conduct any tests related to nuclear explosions. We reaffirmed our firm support for the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty and its entry into force. We are also committed to suspending tests of detonating nuclear materials.

He added: “The United States considers Russia’s withdrawal of its ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty a step in the wrong direction.

He continued, saying, “Russian officials announced that withdrawing ratification of the treaty does not mean resuming experiments, and we call on Moscow to adhere to these statements.”

It is noteworthy that on Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law withdrawing ratification of the comprehensive ban on nuclear testing./End
