UK partially suspends arms exports to Israel

The United Kingdom announced on Monday that 30 out of 350 arms export licenses to Israel have been suspended due to a "clear risk" that they could be used in Gaza in serious violation of international humanitarian law. "Some arms exports to Israel could be used to commit or facilitate serious violations of international humanitarian law," UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy told the parliament. The decision followed a UK review of Israel's compliance with international humanitarian law. Lammy noted that the partial ban targets items that "could be used in the current conflict in Gaza" between Israel and Hamas. According to a statement from the UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the UK adheres to strict export licensing criteria, stating that licenses will not be issued if there is a risk that the exported items could be used to commit or facilitate serious violations of international humanitarian law.
