UAE President Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al-Nahyan and Qatar's Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani discussed Sunday strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation to serve mutual interests, as well as recent regional developments. The meeting in Abu Dhabi covered several regional and international issues of shared concern, including the current situation in the Middle East and the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported. Both sides underscored the importance of intensifying efforts for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, ensuring full protection for civilians under international humanitarian law, and strengthening the response to the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza, the agency added. Both sides discussed US President Joe Biden's proposals regarding the Gaza crisis, expressing support for serious efforts to de-escalate the situation, protect all civilians, end their suffering, and move towards a clear political path for a just and lasting peace based on a two-state solution that ensures regional security and stability, WAM said. Biden's proposal, revealed on Friday, includes a three-phase plan for a ceasefire: a six-week temporary ceasefire, transitioning to a permanent ceasefire, and the start of Gaza's reconstruction, along with an increase in humanitarian aid to 600 trucks daily.
