Ramallah: President Mahmoud Abbas met on Sunday with President of the High Judicial Council Judge Abdel Ghani al-Oweiwi and Attorney General Akram al-Khatib in a meeting that highlighted the national and constitutional role of the judiciary and public prosecution system as key pillars of justice and the rule of law in Palestine.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency, during the meeting, President Abbas was briefed on the work of the judicial system and the public prosecution office. He listened to the main challenges facing the justice sector amid the difficult political, economic, and security conditions facing Palestine and their growing impact on judicial institutions.
President Abbas stressed the importance of safeguarding judicial independence and strengthening the rule of law. He praised the national responsibility carried by judges, prosecutors, and judicial staff, as well as their continued efforts to ensure the functioning of justice institutions despite exceptional circumstances.
He also commended their resilience and professional commitment, affirming that the continued work of the judiciary and prosecution services reflects the strength of Palestinian institutions and their commitment to justice and protecting citizens' rights.
