The United Nations warns of the “halt” of relief operations in Gaza

Baghdad – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) warned that it would be forced to stop its relief operations in the Gaza Strip due to a lack of fuel supplies, amid intense Israeli bombing.

After 18 days of devastating Israeli bombardment and an almost complete siege by land, sea and air of the Gaza Strip, the United Nations Agency warned that its operations had reached the point of collapse.

The Agency, which provides assistance to 600,000 displaced people in Gaza, said: “If we do not get fuel urgently, we will be forced to stop our operations in the Gaza Strip.”

The Gaza Strip has been subjected to Israeli land, sea and air bombardment since Hamas launched Operation “Al-Aqsa Flood” on October 7.

“Al-Aqsa Flood” was met with the Israeli “Iron Swords” operation, where the Israeli army launched raids on the Gaza Strip, and the death toll from the Israeli bombing reached 5,791 martyrs and 18,000 wounded in the Strip.

On the Israeli side, more than 1,400 people were killed, including 308 officers and soldiers, while Hamas captured more than 200 Israelis.

Relief agencies say that hospitals are working beyond capacity and electricity generators are short of fuel, while about 1.4 million Palestinians, more than half of the population of the Strip, have been displaced from the north to escape the bombing or under an ultimatum issued by Israel to evacuate Gaza City.

Since the outbreak of the war, a few dozen trucks loaded with basic materials have been allowed to enter from the Egyptian side of the border with Gaza, which is not enough to meet needs, according to relief agencies.

The Palestinian Red Crescent said on Tuesday that it had received the fourth batch of humanitarian aid, including eight trucks.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres said that Gaza is now witnessing “enormous suffering,” and at the same time called on Israel to protect civilians.
