The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights confirms: Israel violated the laws of war in Gaza

The United Nations Human Rights Office said on Wednesday that the Israeli occupation forces may have repeatedly violated the basic principles of the laws of war and failed to distinguish between civilians and combatants in the Gaza Strip. The office mentioned in a report evaluating six Israeli attacks, which included the suspected use of guided bombs of the GBU-31 (2000 lb), GBU-32 (1000 lb) and GBU-39 (250 lb) types between October 9 and December 2, 2023, targeting residential buildings, schools, refugee camps and a market caused a large number of casualties and the destruction of civilian infrastructure, and that 'Israeli forces may have systematically violated the principles of distinction, proportionality and precautions in the attack.' The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Trk, explained: 'It appears that the requirement to choose means and methods of warfare that avoid or at least minimize harm to civilians has been consistently violated in the Israeli bombing campaign.'
