Gaza - Ma'an - Amid the siege and daily challenges facing the residents of the central region, humanitarian work continues in the polio vaccination campaign for the second consecutive day without interruption. Today, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society teams completed their noble mission of vaccinating children against polio, through the Fathi Arafat Center, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society medical points and camps, amidst great health and humanitarian challenges. Parents were keen to take their children to these necessary medical efforts, in a scene that reflects everyone's desire for a safe and healthy life for their children, despite all the difficulties. The Palestinian Red Crescent crews, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), and under the supervision of the World Health Organization, were able to vaccinate 72,611 children on the first day of the emergency polio vaccination campaign in Gaza. The occupation continues to prevent Red Crescent crews working in the children's vaccination campaign from reaching the areas east of Salah al-Din Street, such as al-Bureij, al-Maghazi, al-Masdar, and the new camp in al-Nuseirat. This ban is hampering the campaign's efforts and preventing it from achieving its goal of vaccinating 96% of children, which is the percentage required to ensure the campaign's success and achieve community immunity. Dr. Mohammed Abu Rahma, Director of the Primary Care Department at the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, followed up on the vaccination process at the Fathi Arafat Center, the Al-Bassa Medical Point, and the Return Camp 2 in the Al-Zawaida area, where he continues to supervise the implementation of the campaign to ensure that vaccines reach the targeted children efficiently and effectively.
