The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, stressed the importance of investigating the genocide crimes that occurred during the rule of the previous regime. Today, during his meeting with the delegation of the United Nations Investigation Team for ISIS crimes (UNITAD), headed by Ana Pirro Lopes, the President appreciated the role played by the investigation team in ensuring accountability for the crimes that affected the Iraqi people. He stressed the need to strengthen coordination paths with the Iraqi government and complete the archiving and documentation of evidence, materials and analyzes related to these crimes, stressing the importance of investigating genocide crimes that occurred during the rule of the previous regime, such as Anfal, Halabja, and mass graves, and not being subject to the statute of limitations. For its part, the delegation reviewed the team's work process, the efforts made to document genocide crimes, and the importance of working with Iraqi legal experts to enable t hem to collect information and evidence about all crimes committed against the Iraqi people.
