The G7 Pledges To Provide Long-Term Military Support To Ukraine

Today, the Group of Seven major industrialized countries pledged to provide long-term military support to Ukraine to help it confront the Russian military operation, and to prevent it from launching any attack against it in the future.

Britain, France, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States said in a joint statement on the sidelines of the NATO summit in the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius: “We will work with Ukraine on specific, long-term bilateral security commitments to ensure a sustainable force capable of defending its territory.” In the event that Russia launches an armed attack in the future, we intend to quickly and continuously provide security assistance and advanced military equipment in the land, sea and air fields to Ukraine, as well as economic assistance.

This support comes in light of Ukraine’s request to NATO member states to approve its request to join the military bloc.

It is noteworthy that the Russian-Ukrainian crisis contributed to changing the military balances in northern Europe, as Finland rushed to join NATO, to be followed by Sweden, which made NATO have common borders with Russia, something that Moscow strongly opposes, and vows to respond to it.
