Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry confirmed that Cairo is working to strengthen cooperation with Turkey in order to achieve stability in the region. Shukri said in a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan today in Istanbul: 'We are working to strengthen cooperation with Turkey in order to achieve stability in the region.' He added: "We look forward to meeting soon in Cairo to arrange the holding of the Strategic Cooperation Council and to arrange the visit of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to Turkey in the near future." He continued: "We are in the process of studying a broad legal framework of agreements and finalizing them in preparation for the Strategic Cooperation Council meeting." Regarding regional issues, the Egyptian Foreign Minister stressed that 'we must deal seriously with preventing the displacement of Palestinians and working to establish an independent Palestinian state with full sovereignty.' He pointed out that the visit made by Turkish President R ecep Tayyip Erdogan to Egypt on February 14, after 12 years of estrangement, is an important milestone in Turkish-Egyptian relations, which have achieved great progress recently.
