Tafileh Governor, Omar Zeyoud, on Monday received UK Ambassador to Jordan, Philip Hall, and discussed the southern governorate's needs in various fields, such as training programs in artificial intelligence and technology and climate change mitigation. In the meeting, attended by Tafileh Mayor Hazem Al-Udainat and Governorate Council President Ahmad Al-Hawamdeh, Zeyoud emphasized the importance of the ambassador's visit to learn about the opportunities available in the governorate, especially in training and qualifying young job seekers in technology, artificial intelligence and English language, highlighting Tafileh's opportunities and advantages in the tourism, agricultural and economic spheres. He also highlighted the needs and challenges faced by the population, especially poverty and unemployment, in light of the Syrian refugee crisis, and the importance of providing opportunities for unemployed youth by creating employment projects and water harvesting projects to reduce the impacts of climate change, which has affected agricultural areas. In turn, Al-Hawamdeh pointed out that the governorate council and the concerned authorities are seeking to establish a training center for information technology and technologies that will contribute to qualifying young job seekers in the technical field, pointing to cooperation and coordination with the British Cultural Center to hold specialized training courses in the fields of the English language. For his part, Ambassador Hall lauded ties between the two countries, and the UK's keenness to support Jordan's efforts to develop the local economy and create job opportunities, especially in the southern governorates. Furthermore, Ambassador Hall visited Tafileh Technical University and met with its president, Bassam Al-Mahasneh, to discuss enhancing academic cooperation between the university and higher education institutions and scientific research centers in the UK. The British envoy expressed his admiration for the university's advanced level during a tour that in cluded the Advanced Design and Manufacturing Laboratory, the Renewable Energy Laboratory and the Language Center.
