The Yemeni Authority for Standardization, Metrology and Quality Control warned against poor storage and display of nuts. The authority explained in a statement issued that poor storage and display of nuts leads to the spoilage of these goods by infecting them with fungi, which in turn secrete mycotoxins, affecting the health and safety of the consumer when eating them and causing some serious diseases. The Authority stressed the need for all stores to adhere to the requirements for storage, transportation , display of this commodity, and to preserve and store it at a low temperature to ensure its safety from rotting and other things. The Authority called on consumers to ensure that these products are free of insect and fungal infestations when purchasing, avoid purchasing from street vendors, and dispose of them if insect infestations, fungal toxins, or rodent droppings appear.
