New York: France and 14 other Western nations have collectively urged countries around the world to recognize a Palestinian state, as stated by France's top diplomat on Wednesday. This call was made in a joint statement by the foreign ministers of 15 nations after a conference in New York, co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia, focused on reviving the two-state solution between Israelis and Palestinians.
According to Nam News Network, the French Foreign Minister, Jean-Noel Barrot, announced on social media platform X that France, along with 14 other countries, is appealing for the global recognition of the State of Palestine. Barrot emphasized the desire for those nations that have not yet recognized Palestine to join their initiative.
The statement released by the 15 nations, which include Spain, Norway, and Finland, reaffirmed their commitment to the two-state solution vision. Notably, nine of the signatories, including Australia, Canada, and New Zealand, have not yet recognized the Palestinian state but expressed willingness or positive consideration to do so.
This diplomatic move by France and its partners marks a significant step, particularly as it positions France and its European ally, the United Kingdom, potentially as the first G7 nations to recognize the Palestinian state.
