Media Advisor to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), Adnan Abu Hasna, said that granting the Order of Istiqlal of the First Degree to UNRWA by His Majesty King Abdullah comes at a crucial time and will contribute significantly to directing the world's compass towards supporting the agency. Abu Hasna told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) that through this honor, His Majesty expressed his and Jordan's belief in the importance of UNRWA's role while being subjected to systematic and intensive political and media attacks aimed at eradicating it. He explained that this important honor will have an impact in terms of restoring confidence and significant support, and is a message to the world that there is no alternative to UNRWA and its continuity is indispensable, lauding Jordan's humanitarian role and its embrace of 2.5 million Palestinian refugees. Abu Hasna said that Jordan is a strategic partner and supporter of UNRWA in its operations and in all conferen ces and has always been an initiator in the first place thanks to its leading diplomacy, which played an important role in supporting the agency in all regional and international forums. He underlined the great importance of the "Call for Action: Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gaza" conference, which Jordan hosted at the Dead Sea on Tuesday. The conference, he underlined, was a significant occasion that attracted high-level international participation, and the attendees emphasized the significance of diverting attention from the political agenda to the delivery of humanitarian goods into Gaza.
