Doha: The second inter-regional expert meeting on the measurement of South-South cooperation kicked off in Doha on Wednesday. Hosted by the State of Qatar from June 4-6, the event is being organized in partnership with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for West Asia (ESCWA), the Islamic Development Bank, and the UN regional commissions. More than 50 countries from the global South are participating in the meeting, which is being held in person and virtually. HE Director of Department of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Shaheen bin Ali Al Kaabi, opened the high-level inaugural session of the meeting, in the presence of representatives of the National Planning Council, heads of national offices and international cooperation agencies of the participating countries, directors of relevant international organizations, and representatives of the diplomatic corps in the country. The meeting aims to enhance cooperation between the countries of the Global South by measuring the national data of these countries, and developing appropriate policies to achieve this within the framework of indicators related to the Sustainable Development Goals (Agenda 2030). The participating countries expressed their commitment to work together and exchange best practices to ensure enhanced cooperation between them and the implementation of the agreed-upon mechanism for collecting and sharing data with regional and international organizations.
