Qatar condemned in the strongest terms the assassination of Dr. Ismail Haniyeh, head of the political bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement in Palestine (Hamas) in the Iranian capital, Tehran, and considers it a heinous crime, a dangerous escalation and a flagrant violation of international and humanitarian law. The Qatari Foreign Ministry confirmed in a statement this morning, Wednesday, that this assassination and the reckless Israeli behavior in continuously targeting civilians in Gaza will lead to the region slipping into a cycle of chaos and undermining the chances of peace. In its statement, the Foreign Ministry reiterated the State of Qatar's firm position rejecting violence, terrorism and criminal acts, including political assassinations, regardless of the motives and reasons. The Qatari Foreign Ministry expressed the condolences of the State of Qatar, its leadership and people, to the family of the head of the political bureau of the Hamas movement and his personal companion, and to the State of Palestine and its brotherly people.
