In response to recent attacks on transportation vehicles and buses, the Public Security Directorate (PSD) and the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) jointly announced Sunday the launch of a targeted security operation. The goal of this operation is to maintain the safety and security of the archaeological site and to capture the people accountable for these illegal activities, according to PDTRA statement. Numerous events in recent months have involved blocking buses and other transportation vehicles, making it more difficult for them to move people and operate on back roads, the statement explained. Furthermore, this operation is an essential part of the ongoing campaign, which began on December 4, 2023, in collaboration with the PSD, to uphold the rule of law, eradicate infractions within the archaeological site, and preserve Petra's status as a New Seven Wonders of the World and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The PDTRA is dedicated to putting development, economic, and social ideas meant to promote sustainable development into action, working in tandem with other governmental agencies. These initiatives include generating new and creative tourism products, diversifying revenue streams, and establishing long-term employment prospects within the community. The PDTRA seeks to improve visitor experiences in order to lengthen stays and increase expenditure, which would eventually boost the local economy. Source: Jordan News Agency
