Free Palestine Echoes at Emmy Awards

Los Angeles: Several artists used their appearances to call for Free Palestine, wearing keffiyehs and handbags, and shouting "CEASE FIRE!" during Sunday night's 77th annual Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, California.

According to TRTworld.com, "Hacks" star Hannah Einbinder won her first Emmy for best supporting actress in a comedy series and closed her acceptance speech by saying, "Go Birds, F--- ICE and Free Palestine." She later elaborated on her statement while her name was being engraved on the trophy backstage.

In the week leading up to the Emmys, 3,900 industry names signed an open pledge declaring that they will not work with Israeli institutions and film companies implicated in genocide and apartheid against the Palestinian people. The pledge statement, published on Monday by the organization Film Workers for Palestine, highlighted examples of complicity, such as whitewashing or justifying genocide and apartheid, and partnering with the government committing these acts.

Actor Javier Bardem, during an interview, condemned what he described as genocide, expressing his refusal to work with those who justify or support such actions. He further explained that in Madrid, Spain, a bicycle tour was halted by thousands of protesters opposing the participation of an Israeli team, echoing the sentiment of resistance displayed at the Emmys.

Megan Stalter of "Hacks" also made a statement on the red carpet, posing with a handbag emblazoned with "CEASE FIRE!" in bold characters, further amplifying the call for peace and justice.
