Presidency Condemns Israel’s Approval of Settlement Units in West Bank

Ramallah: The Palestinian Presidency today condemned the Israeli occupation authorities' announcement of plans to build 764 new colonial settlement units in the occupied West Bank, describing it as an attempt to undermine international efforts to halt violence and escalation and to achieve stability in the region.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Presidential spokesperson Nabil Abu Rudeineh stated that the Israeli decision is unacceptable and in violation of international legitimacy and international law, particularly UN Security Council Resolution 2334. This resolution affirms that all settlement activity in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip, is illegal. Abu Rudeineh emphasized that these colonial decisions will not provide legitimacy or security to anyone.

Abu Rudeineh further noted that the occupation government bears full responsibility for the potential dangerous consequences of this policy, which could ignite the region, lead to a cycle of violence and wars, and undermine any efforts to stabilize the area.

He urged the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump to apply pressure on the occupation authorities to reverse their settlement policies, annexation attempts, and land expansion. He emphasized the importance of compelling them to adhere to international legitimacy and law. This compliance is deemed essential for the success of President Trump's efforts to halt the conflict and establish stability in the region.
