PRCS Chief Highlights Unprecedented Violations by Israeli Forces in Gaza.

Al-Bireh: The head of the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS), Younis Al-Khatib, announced today that relief teams in the Gaza Strip are confronting unprecedented breaches of international humanitarian law by Israeli forces. This statement was made during a conference at the PRCS headquarters in Al-Bireh, attended by Jagan Chapagain, the Secretary-General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Al-Khatib emphasized that these violations are significantly obstructing humanitarian response efforts on the ground. He asserted that the Israeli occupation has effectively nullified the role of the international community and international humanitarian law in safeguarding civilians and humanitarian workers. Al-Khatib urged for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the unrestricted flow of humanitarian aid, and improved safe access for PRCS teams to deliver essential aid to those in need across Gaza. Jagan Chapagain highlig hted the critical role of the PRCS in delivering humanitarian services to citizens affected in both the West Bank and Gaza Strip. He pointed out the massive and escalating humanitarian needs, calling for unified international efforts to provide services that uphold the dignity of those affected. Chapagain appealed to the global community to seek lasting political solutions to alleviate the suffering in Gaza. The conference also marked a stand on International Volunteer Day, observed on December 5, under the theme "Let's protect humanity." This event is part of a global initiative launched by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, advocating for the protection of humanitarian workers. During the event, PRCS volunteers lit candles and placed 21 robes adorned with the Red Crescent emblem on the ground to honor 21 workers (19 in Gaza and two in the West Bank) who were killed by Israeli forces while performing their duties since October 7, 2023. Chapagain commended the dedication o f Red Crescent and Red Cross volunteers worldwide, particularly those in Gaza who are making substantial sacrifices to aid humanity. He stressed the necessity of ensuring their protection to continue their life-saving work, declaring it unacceptable for volunteers to risk their lives while attempting to save others.
