PM Mustafa: Women and children account for around 70% of victims of Gaza genocide

RAMALLAH: Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa stated Friday that women and children account for around 70% of the victims of the Israeli genocide in the Gaza Strip.

Marking the National Palestinian Woman’s Day, Prime Minister Mustafa said that although women and children account for such a percentage of the total death toll in Gaza, Palestinian women demonstrate daily steadfastness, resilience and defiance in their struggle to regain their human rights.

He added that the Palestinian government continues to pay interest to Palestinian women in all fields and has the determination to achieve social justice and limit tackle and combat all forms of violence and discrimination against women, including to their right to title and inheritance and protection.

The National Palestinian Woman’s Day was marked today as the Palestinian people were at a historic and fateful juncture in their national history amidst very complex circumstances, at a time when Israel, the occupying power, was continuing unabated with the genoc
idal and ethnic cleansing war in the Gaza Strip as well as with such an unprecedented escalation in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, Mustafa added.

He pointed out that the Palestinian people were in this together, women and men, paying a high price to protect their national project from Israeli arrogance and the policy of double standards. Palestinians, whether within the homeland or in exile, would not be discouraged by such a price from exercising their right to self-determination, realizing freedom, national independence and the right of return.

He stressed that the Palestinian people as a whole would remain more determined to achieve social justice and equality.

He went on to say that the government was working at all levels to convey the suffering of Palestinian women to the world, through participation in various international forums, maintaining ongoing contact with representatives of different countries and providing international institutions with periodic reports on the suffering of Palestinia
n women to secure international protection for the Palestinian women and children.

Highlighting the centrality of women’s issues in the government agenda, Mustafa said that since the first day of its work and in its program which has gained the President’s trust, the 19th government has shown special interest in Palestinian women in various fields.

He affirmed that the government was paying interest to the role of civil society organizations (CSOs) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in promoting the situation of human rights and reducing violence and discrimination against women.

He concluded by stressing that despite all the challenges imposed by Israel, the occupying authority, the Palestinian people have all persevered, including the government, CSOs and community-based organizations (CBOs), to achieve social justice, safeguard women’s dignity, and unleash their potential in all fields and at the local, regional, and international levels.
