Paralympic Games Paris 2024: Ali Arshad Secures 6th Place in 100m Wheelchair Race

Qatari athlete Ali Arshad finished 6th in the 100-meter wheelchair race (T34) at the Paralympic Games in Paris today, by recording a time of 15.42 seconds. Thai athlete Chiwat Rattana won the gold medal in the race with a time of 14.76 seconds, followed by Tunisian Walid Ktila in second place with a time of 15.14 seconds, and Canadian Austin Smeenk in third place with a time of 15.19 seconds. Ali Arshad qualified for the final after setting a new personal best of 15.20 seconds in the preliminary round held yesterday (Sunday), securing third place in the second heat. However, Ali Arshad's journey in the Paralympic Games is not over just yet as He will have another chance to compete when he participates in the first round of the 800-meter wheelchair race (T34) on Friday. Meanwhile, his teammate Sarah Masoud will compete in the women's shot put event, scheduled for Thursday at the Stade de France. Attending the athletics competitions today was HE First Vice President of the Qatar Olympic Committee Mohammed bin Youssef Al Mana. HE Al Mana praised the efforts of the organizing committee of the Paralympic Games in Paris for hosting this global sporting event that brings together people from around the world in a competitive and honorable atmosphere. He also highlighted the exceptional opening ceremony held at Place de la Concorde, Frances largest square, reminiscent of the Olympic Games opening ceremony that took place on the River Seine. The First Vice President of the Qatar Olympic Committee wished the Qatari athletes participating in the Games success in their upcoming competitions. After the race, Qatari athlete Ali Arshad expressed his satisfaction with his performance against some of the world's best competitors and his 6th place finish. He confirmed his determination to perform better in the 800-meter race, especially after gaining confidence from his 100-meter race performance and qualification to the final. The 17th edition of the Paralympic Games, hosted in Paris from August 28 to September 8, 2024, will see the participation of 4,400 athletes from around the world. The Qatari delegation to the Paralympic Games, led by Secretary General of the Qatar Paralympic Committee Dr. Hassan Al Ansari, includes athlete Ali Arshad, his coach Nabil Al Moslamani, athlete Sarah Masoud, her coach Walid Magmoul, physiotherapist Anis Bougmoura, and technical expert Mohammed Suhail.
