Palestinian Infants Succumb to Cold as Humanitarian Crisis Deepens in Gaza

GAZA CITY: The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has intensified with the death of another infant due to freezing temperatures, raising the toll to six infants lost in a week. Medical sources confirmed the death of Ali Al-Batran, a one-month-old baby, following the death of his twin brother Juma, highlighting the dire conditions faced by residents amid severe cold and lack of resources.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the infants' deaths underscore the severe impact of the lack of food security and basic necessities for families in Gaza. The region, already strained by ongoing conflict and displacement, continues to suffer as mothers face malnutrition, exacerbating health risks for their children.

Muhammad Abu Afash, the Director of Medical Relief in Gaza and North Gaza, reported a daily toll of children succumbing to the cold due to the lack of essentials such as food, drink, and baby milk. He emphasized the absence of adequate shelter, including tents, blankets, and clothing, contributing to the humanitarian crisis. Abu Afash warned of further tragedies, stressing the risk of entire families freezing to death in inadequate shelter conditions.

The ongoing military operations have compounded the crisis, as occupation forces persist with raids and artillery shelling for the 451st consecutive day. These actions have devastated civilian areas, resulting in a catastrophic humanitarian situation. The blockade has displaced more than 90% of the population, with many casualties still unrecovered due to hazardous conditions and restrictions on vital aid.

Strict limitations on the entry of fuel and essential supplies have further exacerbated the crisis, impeding efforts to provide relief to the besieged population. As the humanitarian situation deteriorates, calls for immediate intervention and aid have intensified to prevent further loss of life.
