Palestinian, Egyptian leaders meet on sidelines of BRICS summit


KAZAN: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met today with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, on the sidelines of the BRICS summit held in the Russian city of Kazan.

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the latest developments in the Palestinian territories and the ongoing Israeli war of extermination against the Palestinian people.

They also touched on the Israeli attacks against the Palestinian people, lands and holy sites in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

The joint efforts made by the Palestinian and Egyptian leaderships to achieve an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and a complete Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip were also discussed.

The meeting also discussed the acceleration of the entry of aid to the Palestinian people, especially in the northern Gaza Strip, which is subjected to a tight siege and starvation of citizens in preparation for their displacement from their land and homes.

They affirmed this requires urgent international intervention to stop these Isr
aeli crimes that have violated all international conventions and norms.

President Abbas reiterated that the Gaza Strip is an integral part of the Palestinian State, and is under its responsibility and administration, adding that the State of Palestine rejects any measures that lead to the separation of the Gaza Strip from the State of Palestine.

He stressed that the State of Palestine will continue its efforts to implement the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice in accordance with the UN General Assembly resolution and the holding of the International Peace Conference.

President Abbas noted that the State of Palestine will continue working to obtain Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations, stressing the importance of obtaining more recognition of the State of Palestine from countries that have not done so.

The President praised Egypt’s firm positions and support for the rights of the Palestinian people, mainly their right to establish their independent state with East Jerusale
m as its capital, appreciating Egypt’s continued support for reconciliation efforts and its efforts aimed at stopping the Israeli aggression.

During the meeting, the two presidents also agreed to strengthen and develop bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries in all fields, and to continue consultations between them on various issues of common interest, within the framework of cooperation and coordination between the two leaderships.

The President also confirmed to his Egyptian counterpart that he accepts his invitation to participate in the opening of the United Nations World Urban Forum, which will be held in Cairo in the first week of November.
