“My Right to Know” Project Launched in Aqaba

The Al-Mithaq Association for Development and Empowerment launched the "My Right to Know" project in Aqaba on Saturday, in collaboration with the "Makanati" project, which focuses on women's economic and leadership empowerment. During the launch ceremony, Aqaba Governor Khaled Al-Hajjaj, stated that the USAID-funded project aims to provide a safe working environment for women through a supportive legal community network and to raise legal awareness about labor laws. He highlighted the importance of empowering Jordanian women by enhancing their knowledge of existing laws, regulations, and systems, and adhering to them. Al-Hajjaj praised the "My Right to Know" initiative, which is expected to have a positive impact on both young men and women, positioning Aqaba as a model for other governorates in the Kingdom. Obeid Yassin, Former MP and Chairman of the Association, stated that the project seeks to empower youth and reinforce their significant role, particularly that of women, through participation in deci sion-making, positive initiatives, and preparing them to contribute constructively to nation-building. Haneen Al-Jarahi, the project manager, described the initiative as a new step towards women's empowerment and their active participation in the economic and social spheres, as well as in sustainable development. She highlighted that the project seeks to provide appropriate solutions to the challenges women face. Al-Jarahi further explained that a "Legal Club" would be established, and network members would receive training. The project also aims to create synergies between the public and private sectors, organize workplace environments, and offer training sessions targeting more than 400 participants, educating them about workers' rights in various institutions across Aqaba. On the sidelines of the launch, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Al-Mithaq Association for Development and Empowerment and the legal committee. The agreement stipulates that the first party will provide financial resources, venue, facilities, a working team, and follow-up, while the second party will commit to setting a timeline for activities, offering their legal expertise, organizing awareness and dialogue sessions on labor laws and women's rights, and providing legal consultations through the association's website.
