MoFA Lauds UK, Canada, and Australia for Recognizing State of Palestine

Ramallah: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has welcomed the decisions by the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia to recognize the State of Palestine. The ministry described these as “courageous decisions” consistent with international law and resolutions and reflecting a commitment to ending occupation and achieving peace in the region.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, the ministry expressed gratitude to these countries and affirmed Palestine’s readiness to build robust relations with them. The recognition by these nations is seen as acknowledging the rights of the Palestinian people and supporting the two-state solution against the backdrop of ongoing conflicts and occupation-related issues.

The ministry highlighted that these recognitions add momentum to efforts led by Saudi Arabia and France to implement the “New York Declaration.” This initiative aims to cease hostilities and resolve the conflict through political means, while promoting respect for international law in the peace process.

The ministry urged countries yet to recognize Palestine, especially the United States, to do so in accordance with international law and the International Court of Justice’s advisory opinion. It emphasized the importance of recognizing Palestinian self-determination and resolving the ongoing conflict.

Finally, the ministry underscored that ending the Israeli military actions against Palestinians is crucial for achieving peace, building trust, and creating a political path to resolve the conflict.
