Minister of Water Resources Aoun Dhiab Abdullah described the marshes of Maysan Governorate as: "One of the most important tourist facilities in Iraq." The Mnister confirmed in a press conference held at the Diwan of Maysan Governorate, in the presence of Governor Habib Al-Fartousi, the increase in water releases to Maysan Governorate during the months of July and August, to sustain life in the marshes of Maysan and Al-Hawizeh Marsh to preserve its environment and ecological heritage. He pointed to lining and developing the head of the Al-Mashrah River with a concrete blanket for a distance of one kilometer for the first phase, in addition to implementing water resources infrastructure projects in Maysan, and securing the delivery of water to the pumping stations and agricultural lands in the governorate.
