New Delhi, At least 19 people were killed, dozens injured and hundreds feared buried alive after a massive landslide hit Wayanad district of southern Indian state of Kerala early Tuesday, said a media source. According to Media One TV, search and rescue operation is facing difficulties due to continuous down pouring and collapse of a major bridge connecting the hilly Meppadi with the rest of the state. Several teams of army, police and rescue teams supported by the locals are engaged in search and rescue operations amid warnings from the central weather authorities that heavy rain will continue in the state, it said. Media reports said that several hundred buildings including houses and residents are under a huge pile of mud, caused by the landslide as several bodies were recovered from the nearby Periyar River.
