Israeli Authorities Issue Over 180 Administrative Detention Orders in 15 Days Against Palestinians

Ramallah: Israeli authorities have reportedly issued more than 180 administrative detention orders against Palestinians within a span of 15 days, raising concerns among human rights organizations about the escalation of arbitrary detentions.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) have warned of a significant increase in the use of administrative detention by Israeli occupation authorities. The orders include three cases involving female detainees.

The joint statement by the organizations highlights that, as of early March, the number of administrative detainees reached 3,442, including 20 women and numerous children. This figure signifies that administrative detainees now represent over 36% of the total prisoner population in Israeli occupation jails. The statement underscores the expansion of this policy beyond other categories of detainees, such as those serving sentences or held as 'illegal combatants.'

Furthermore, the statement points out that many detainees have been placed under administrative detention immediately upon detention, with some being detained under the pretext of 'incitement' on social media. This is viewed as part of an ongoing effort to impose a restrictive system targeting the Palestinian population.
