RABAT, The State of Kuwait Ambassador to UNESCO Dr. Adam Al-Mulla on Tuesday affirmed the significant role played by the UN agencies particularly the UNESCO in enforcing ethics in the latest smart realm, the artificial intelligence.
Ambassador Al-Mulla noted importance of a UNESCO’s (UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) recommendation on the AI ethics, declared in November 2021, and adopted by all of the 193 member states. He indicated that it was based on international laws.
He was speaking during the First Forum on Artificial Intelligence, co-organized by Morocco’s International Center for Artificial Intelligence center, affiliated to Mohammad VI Polytechnique University, and the UNESCO.
Al-Mulla, who chaired a meeting of the AI ethics panel at the UNESCO, has affirmed that it is imperative for the member states and governments to heed the ethical regulations.
Elaborating, he affirmed benefits of employing the AI in education, alluding to a UNESCO’s call upon the governments to train te
achers on the latest smart innovation.
The UNESCO, in September 2023, publicized guidelines for using generative AI in teaching, with precautionary terms for respecting privacy of individuals and institutions and setting the ages for using the technology.
The three-day forum that kicked off on Monday groups representatives of 30 states including 15 African countries and international experts.
