Katara Embraces Groundbreaking Art Works of Late Sudanese Painter Othman Waqi’allah

Doha: August 14 - The Cultural Village Foundation-Katara, on Wednesday, inaugurated an Arabic calligraphy exhibition for the late Sudanese painter and artist Othman Waqi'allah, in the presence of General Manager of the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, HE Ambassador of the Republic of the Sudan to the State of Qatar Ahmed Abdel-Rahman Mohamed Hassan Siwar Al Dahab, alongside a host of intellectuals and a sheer number of the Sudanese community members in Doha. The exhibition shines a spotlight on a pioneering Arab experience in Arabic calligraphy through a combination of groundbreaking masterpieces of the late Sudanese painter Othman Waqi'allah, known as fourth dimension. The exhibition showcases an array of illustrious paintings created by fingers of the late Sudanese painter. Additionally, the expo narrates various art phases of the painter for visitors to accurately learn about the modernized and trailblazing direction in Sudan. Speaking to Qatar News Agency , Dr. Kha lid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti said he is grateful to Katara for embracing the exhibition of the late Sudanese painter Othman Waqi'allah, who is one of the most prominent contemporary artists in the Arab region. He pointed out that the exhibition showcases 82 art works, including 42 art pieces in Arabic calligraphy, along with personal belongings, chiefly three rare copies of the Holy Qur'an he handwrote. Several of these belongings were brought in collaboration with the late artist's daughter, to be in possession of Katara in the future, Dr. Al Sulaiti outlined, underlining that Katara, so far, has hosted numerous Sudanese artists, in collaboration with the Sudanese Embassy in Doha, which is always committed to reinforcing cooperation with Katara to familiarize the public in Qatar with a variety of culture words and components, as well as the Sudanese heritage. For his part, HE Ambassador of the Republic of the Sudan to the State of Qatar Ahmed Abdel-Rahman Mohamed Hassan Siwar Al Dahab underscored to QNA the importance of this exhibition which comprises awe-inspiring art works for one of the most consequential Sudanese artists, the key founder of the College of Fine and Applied Art in Sudan. HE the Ambassador affirmed that the late Sudanese painter had numerous milestones in Arabic calligraphy, lauding Katara's unwavering efforts in embracing Sudanese culture and arts, as the venue hosted over 5 exhibitions for Sudanese artists throughout the past year, before that was the Sudanese Nubian Festival, thus enhancing the enduring cooperation between the Sudanese Embassy and Katara. HE Siwar Al Dahab commended the cultural cooperation with multiple cultural institutions in the State of Qatar, primarily the Ministry of Culture which hosted events for the Sudanese community and Sudanese culture, with Jasra Cultural Club hosting Sudanese art and theatrical performances, as well as Qatar Museums, which sponsored a host of Sudanese museums. Additionally, Sudanese archaeological missions operating in Sudan continue their explorations with support from Qatar Museums, he underlined. With his unique fingers the late Sudanese painter Othman Waqi'allah accomplished some copies of the Holy Qur'an, as well as many Islamic paintings.
