Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development on Wednesday inked a grant accord with the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Malaria and Tuberculosis (Global Fund) at a value of USD eight million to contribute to the fund financial resources for the period 2023-2025. The Kuwaiti fund said in a press release that the grant would be invested to set up sustainable and flexible health systems in a number of countries, adding that the Global Fund in coordination with the World Health Organization and the UN Development Program was seeking to secure some USD 18 billion to back global efforts to stem spread of the aids, tuberculosis and malaria. The global fund is also seeking to aid states in their efforts to save lives of 20 million people, cut rates of fatalities resulting from the three diseases by 60 percent, in addition to protecting 450 million people from infection. This is the seventh tranche by KFAED, intended to combat diseases and epidemics at the international level and the third contribution of its kind for trea ting these illnesses. The statement has indicated that KFAED has contributed, on behalf of the State of Kuwait, with a grant for the fifth renewal of the Global Fund financial resources for the period 2017-2019, with USD five million. Moreover, it has contributed to the sixth renewal for 2020-2022, with USD six million.
