Jordan Customs dealt with 5,957 smuggling cases last year

Amman: During the past year, customs staff dealt with 5,957 smuggling cases, including 24 drug-related cases, which involved narcotic Captagon pills, crystal meth, heroin, cocaine, and marijuana, Jordan Customs (JC) announced. In a press statement Tuesday, the JC noted its workers dealt with more than 82,000 customs violations during the past year and carried out "organized" inspection campaigns and tours to combat smuggling and counterfeit goods. During 2023, the JC adopted 6 "pioneering" national projects, aimed to enhance competitiveness of the national economy, stimulate international trade, remove work-related duplication and conflict among government departments and seek to integrate import, export and transit systems. The JC noted approximately 40,000 electric vehicles were cleared, bringing the total number of cleared diesel, gasoline, and hybrid cars to 76,815 during the past year 2023, according to the statement. Additionally, the JC launched 8 new e-services during the past year, bringing the t otal number provided to service recipients to 162 various e-services. The department also signed 4 e-connectivity agreements, bringing the total number to 66 agreements to streamline procedures, and exchange information securely and smoothly with different parties to save time, effort and cost. The department redeveloped the e-tracking system to allow the expansion of e-tracking operations, relying on the latest communications technologies, satellites, and digital maps. In this context, a total of 171,557 e-tracking trips were carried out and 3,705 trucks were "actually" escorted and safeguarded under this process. Source: Jordan News Agency
