He added that there has been an increase in Captagon in particular, with about 5 million pills, noting that the demand for addiction treatment centers in the Kingdom is limited. He explained that last year, 25,000 people were brought before the judiciary in drug cases, and that the conviction rate for these people amounted to 91 percent, while 180 people were sentenced to more than 10 years in drug cases. Farayah further added that the competent authorities have no direct evidence of countries involved in smuggling drugs into Jordan, stressing that the security agencies are continuing their campaign to control drug smuggling anywhere in the Kingdom. He emphasized that the Ministry of Interior is ready to deal according to the law with any violations in the upcoming parliamentary elections, and that its role is to work with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to provide protection and ensure the smooth conduct of the electoral process. Farayah said that the ministry is working with the IEC to ensure the security and proper conduct of the electoral process, stressing that there are no hot spots that pose a challenge to the state and that the government is committed to supporting the IEC to hold the parliamentary elections on the scheduled date, and that it endorses no one, and will not interfere with the electoral process except by ensuring its protection. He explained that the ministry is continuing to expand its electronic services, as the Civil Status and Passports Department offers 24 electronic services, but the demand for them is still low, out of 340,000 transactions handled by the department, only 31,000 of them were electronic.
