Israeli forces detain two Palestinians near West Bank checkpoint

NABLUS: Israeli occupation forces Wednesday evening detained two Palestinians near the Beit Furik checkpoint, east of the occupied West Bank city of Nablus, according to local sources.

They said that the soldiers manning the checkpoint physically assaulted two youths, who remained anonymous, and detained them while the latter were crossing the checkpoint, located at the eastern entrance to Nablus.

After 7 Oct. 2023, Israeli soldiers check the identity cards of every person passing through and thoroughly search vehicles, holding traffic up for hours.

Israel severely restricts Palestinians’ freedom of movement through a complex combination of over 100 fixed checkpoints, flying checkpoints, settler-only roads and various other physical obstructions.

Closures besides other measures, taken under the guise of security, are intended to entrench Israel’s 57-year-old military occupation of the West Bank and its settler colonial project which it enforces with routine and frequently deadly violence against Palestini
ans.
