Jerusalem: Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz has made the decision to bar representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) from visiting Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons. Katz claims this measure is necessary to safeguard state security.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, this decision adds to a series of restrictions imposed since the onset of the aggression against the Gaza Strip. The Israeli occupation has already stopped families from visiting their detained relatives and severed their communication with the outside world. Furthermore, it has withdrawn all rights and privileges previously granted to the Palestinian prisoners’ movement.
Currently, there are over 9,100 Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons. They are reportedly enduring challenging conditions, exacerbated by ongoing policies of repression and lack of adequate medical care.
