Dublin: Irish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Defence Simon Harris on Wednesday called on Israel to lift the blockade on Gaza and allow the entry of humanitarian aid. This came in a speech he delivered to the Irish House of Commons on the situation in Gaza.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Harris emphasized the need for action, suggesting that if Israel persists with its military operations, further sanctions should be considered. He highlighted that United Nations reports indicate the number of children killed in Gaza has reached 15,000, underscoring the severe impact of the conflict.
Harris further cited UN data, noting that 34,000 children have been injured and over a million displaced. He expressed concern about the approximately 17,000 children separated from their families, stressing that the psychological impact of the crisis will have long-lasting effects.
He also raised the issue of starvation among Palestinians in Gaza, pointing out that the blockade is preventing essential humanitarian aid from reaching those in need.
