Iraq chaired the second annual meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Arab Planning Institute for the year 2023-2024, which was launched in the Jordanian capital, Amman, last Thursday. The Ministry of Planning stated in a statement that: "Iraq was represented in the meeting by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Planning for Technical Affairs Maher Hammad Johan, with the participation of a number of representatives of the Arab countries that are members of the Board of Trustees of the Institute, the Director General Abdullah Fahd Al-Shami, and the Undersecretary of the Institute." He added, "The meeting witnessed the discussion of a number of items on its agenda, including the discussion and approval of the institute's draft budget and the draft annual activity plan for the year 2024/2025. The draft plan includes a number of development activities that the institute will provide to Arab countries in the areas of capacity building, advisory services, institutional support, studies and publishing, developm ent meetings, entrepreneurship, small and medium enterprises, information technology, and Arab-international cooperation." It is worth mentioning that Iraq holds the position of Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Arab Planning Institute, which is an independent, non-profit regional Arab institution headquartered in the State of Kuwait. It was established in 1980 and includes most Arab countries in its membership. It is concerned with qualifying Arab cadres working in the field of planning and development and providing them with the necessary skills to develop performance in Arab societies in general, through training programs, research and advisory activities, development meetings and conferences in the fields and axes of development, in addition to publications and studies that directly address development issues and economic policies and contribute to enriching and expanding the circle of knowledge and raising the level of development awareness among decision-makers in Arab countries, especially with regard to vital issues and emerging challenges in the field of economic and social development.
