The European Union's foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell warned on Monday that the Israeli aggression on Lebanon threatens to plunge the entire Middle East into a "'all-out war'." Borrell said in statements prior to his participation in a meeting in New York for representatives of the Group of Seven on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly: "I can say that we are almost on the brink of a 'all-out war'," renewing the call for a ceasefire. He added that "civilians in Lebanon are paying an unbearable and unacceptable price," stressing that "this is the right time to do something. Everyone must do everything they can to stop what is happening," acknowledging, on the other hand, the failure of diplomatic efforts so far to stop the war in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli warplanes launched hundreds of raids on areas in southern and eastern Lebanon on Monday, leaving 492 martyrs (including 35 children and 58 women), and 1,645 wounded, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health.
